Quake Champions – #QuakeArt Winners

On October 25, we challenged our exceptionally creative community to come up with their best Quake Champions fanart. With a deadline of just one week, we didn’t know what to expect – but we were completely blown away by your amazing artistic skills!

There were so many great entries it was hard to narrow them down to just 10 finalists, but after much deliberation we came up with our list of winners! Without further ado, here are the top 10 #QuakeArt submissions:

Grand Prize Winner

Xous (@xous54)

1stplace Xous 730

Our collective jaws hit the floor when we saw Xous’s phenomenal Galena piece. It isn’t just the technical skill that made it stand out – though the composition, pose and use of color is amazing – but how well Xous captured Galena’s lore in this picture. The unholy paladin is throwing away her old ragdoll, a remnant of her birth world, removing the final sentiment that kept her from fully embracing her patron elder god, Volkerh. Xous’s art perfectly conveyed Galena’s lore scrolls in a single image, making it our Grand Prize pick.

Second Place

Yoann Ernoult (@YoannErnoult)

2ndplace YoannErnoult 730x411

The speed-painterly style of this one manages to cram in a lot of expression in a few digital brushstrokes: great lighting on Ranger, especially his face; Galena’s exultant pose; and even how stoic Visor manages to look with just a few details that let you know it’s him. Really solid art of the Quake Champions cast, worthy to be framed. (Have to give a special nod to the Sorlag in the background!)

Third Place

It’s ya boy, CJ (@pandafresh)

3rdplace ItsYaBoyCJ 730

We can just hear Anarki’s voice: “Whoa, nice, bro!” Which is without a doubt what he’d say about this drawing of himself. Really dynamic pose CJ captured here, and we love the way that the “frames” at the corners of the picture are parts of whomever Anarki just sliced in half. Wicked.

Runners Up (in no particular order)

Tommyttk (@TommyttkUK)

4thplace TommyTTK

Slash is showing off her roller derby skills, managing to aim while skating backward. We can appreciate the work put into this, as Tommyttk said of his piece: “Figure skating poses are hard.” You made it work, Tommyttk!

Chris Avlis (@Gold_Ram_Krios)

5thplace ChrisAvlis 730

We would’ve been real disappointed if we didn’t see some Clutch art… and Chris did not disappoint! Pixel art Clutch sure is an adorable robotic killing machine, especially with his “Interface” emoji-head version and rainbow dodge trail.

Andrei Mishchenko (@jericho_rus)

6thplace AndreiMischenko 730

Visor may be able to see through Nyx’s phase shift, but not if she’s behind him! (Or maybe he did see her, and he’s baiting her out.) Either way, great tension in this piece! Also, very nice choice of background, having the giant “sword/building” of Corrupted Keep in the background.

Perochialjoe (@perochialjoe)

7thplace perochialjoe 730

Perochialjoe’s tablet broke while he was in the middle of finishing this Visor piece, but even if there are some sketchy bits left, it takes nothing away from this brilliantly colored work. Really great use of different hues on Visor’s skin, especially the brushed-metal look of his torso.

Dead-Pixel (@Br34d_L33)

8thplace Dead-Pixel 730

Dead-Pixel posted a few different pieces, but per contest rules only one could be considered as an entry. While they were all good, we felt the Ranger piece was the strongest, with nice lighting coming from the Dire Orb.

RottenRose (@TC_RottenRose)

9thplace RottenRose 730x411

RottenRose also submitted several of her vector art Champions, including Nyx, Slash and a Scalebearer train. (Which was almost picked as her entry!) Ultimately, though, the vector of Sorlag spitting acid won out. It looks like the perfect image to put on a shirt, doesn’t it?

Igor Kharakhordin (@w3stracer)

10thplace IgorKharakhordin 730

This was the only one of our 10 finalists to use a Champion’s lore skin. Igor had the neat idea to split Ranger down the middle, one side showing his armor, the other with his football-themed lore skin catching a Dire Orb. Nice work!

Honorable Mentions

Although they won’t win any prizes, we had to give shoutouts to two other entries we received:

honorablemention Esporanza 730

Esporanza (@Espo_grl) made a Galena jack-o’-lantern! How cool is that? Maybe we’ll have a pumpkin carving contest next year…

honorablemention CuthberthArt 730

Cuthberth Art (@Cuthberth3Dart) did a neat piece of Ranger fighting… whatever that tentacle is on Blood Covenant. Who let that thing out of its cage?!

Great work from everyone who submitted their art! Look forward to more Quake Champions contests in the future!
